Guide my Path

Over the last several weeks in my time with the Lord certain sets of scripture keep crossing my path. I’ve seen them in my quiet time. I’ve heard them in messages I’ve listened to. I have even heard it in songs on the radio. When those kinds of God winks happen, it is really hard to ignore. God is reminding me over and over the way He has designed life to go.

My husband and I are in a new season for us. The Lord is guiding us to work together in ways that we have allowed life to put us on a path of autopilot and just get things done. This new season God has for us requires much more intentionality. A season of evaluation. A season of slowing down. A season of making sure our roots as individuals and as a couple are firmly established in the Lord and His Word. It is a season of preparation for where God is taking us.

I share that to say this. God’s Word is the road map to where we are going. God has very loudly been showing me how to get through this season, and ultimately future seasons. People are interesting when God gives a vision. Me, I am people, but as you read this maybe you can relate. He shows us one or two pieces of the map, and we instantly develop ideas of what it is to look like, and head off in the direction that we think is the correct path. Sometimes that is total faith, and is the right answer, as long as I am seeking the Lord BEFORE making the step. That isn’t always the case, and more often than I’d care to fess up to, I end up in the weeds doing one more good thing that wasn’t what God wanted me to be doing. Yeah, yeah, I know, busses do not drive well in weeds, and it is hard listening to the navigator when the radio is too loud. (life jumbled with extra things I wasn’t meant to be doing.)

To the Word we go. The scriptures that have been screaming at me. Trust as I write this, I am humbly accepting what I like to call a Jesus spanking. That’s my way of saying I’ve spend entirely too long to carry things I wasn’t meant to carry, driving off road paths, because I am one of God’s most stubborn children, and while I know in my head that He is my everything, I certainly like having my say, as if I could do it any better than the ultimate Creator. While this particular part of any season is not comfortable by any means, I welcome it. I need God to be my compass, my navigator, and I want to trust Him with my everything, all the time.

In no particular order, these are the scriptures (italics and bold are my emphasis, NLT):

Matthew 6:33

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.”

John 14:26 (Red Letters)

“But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative-that is, the Holy Spirit-He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.”

Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”

Psalms 37:5

Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him, and He will help you.”

Psalms 37:23-24

“The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by their hand.” (What a good, good Father!)

Proverbs 16:9

“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”

Jeremiah 10:23-24

“I know, Lord, that our lives are not our own. We are not able to plan our own course. So correct me, Lord, but please be gentle. Do not correct me in anger, for I would die.”

Galatians 5:25

“Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.”

Psalms 119:130-133

“The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand. I pant with expectation longing for your commands. Come and show me your mercy, as you do for all who love your name. Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil.”

Psalms 25:4-5

“Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.”

Psalms 25:9-12

“He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them His way. The LORD leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep His covenant and obey His demands. For the honor of your name, O LORD, forgive my many, many sins. Who are those who fear the LORD? He will show them the path they should choose.”

Psalms 143:8-10

“Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you. Rescue me from my enemies, LORD; I run to you to hide me. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.”

Psalms 27:11

“Teach me how to live, O LORD. Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me.”

Isaiah 58:11-12

“The LORD will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring. Some of you will rebuild the deserted ruins of your cities. Then you will be known as a rebuilder of walls and a restorer of homes.”

Lamentations 3:25

The LORD is good to those who depend on Him, to those who search for Him.”

If this touches you, I pray that you will lean into whatever God is speaking to you in your season of life. I pray and pray and pray that you let your life be led by the Lord of Lords. I know it isn’t easy letting go of your way to trust His way is better. Trust me I know this. There is a better way to live. It is the way of the Lord. Die to your will and let His will shine in your life. It will be a daily battle, but the Holy Spirit is on your side!
